چکیده

Brain-machine interfaces (BMI) map relevant neural activities to the intended movement, known as ‘decoding’. Information about various states of a movement are encoded in the motor areas. These include the kinematic states such as velocity and higher level states such as the intended target. Realtime BMIs have mostly focused on decoding individually either the goal of a movement or its kinematics. However, for goal-directed movements, target information can greatly improve the kinematics decoding.

A Study of Various Feature Extraction Methods on a Motor Imagery Based Brain Computer Interface System

Introduction: Brain Computer Interface (BCI) systems based on Movement Imagination (MI) are widely used in recent decades. Separate feature extraction methods are employed in the MI data sets and classified in Virtual Reality (VR) environments for real-time applications. Methods: This study applied wide variety of features on the recorded data using Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) classifie...

A Real-Time Brain-Machine Interface Combining Motor Target and Trajectory Intent Using an Optimal Feedback Control Design

Real-time brain-machine interfaces (BMI) have focused on either estimating the continuous movement trajectory or target intent. However, natural movement often incorporates both. Additionally, BMIs can be modeled as a feedback control system in which the subject modulates the neural activity to move the prosthetic device towards a desired target while receiving real-time sensory feedback of the...

A review on EEG based brain computer interface systems feature extraction methods

The brain – computer interface (BCI) provides a communicational channel between human and machine. Most of these systems are based on brain activities. Brain Computer-Interfacing is a methodology that provides a way for communication with the outside environment using the brain thoughts. The success of this methodology depends on the selection of methods to process the brain signals in each pha...

Influence of Movement Speed on Plan Activity in Monkey Pre-motor Cortex and Implications for High-Performance Neural Prosthetic System Design

The success of human motor prosthetics will largely depend on increasing system performance by maximizing the movement-related information that can be recorded from cortical neurons. This will in turn depend on successfully combining information from different neurons, and across times for the same neuron. Here we investigate neural activity that occurs prior to reaching movements, and attempt ...
